Rikki yawned, rising from her nap on the couch. She sat there for a moment, waking up completely. She ran her hands over her face quickly and went upstairs to her room. As she entered the blue and white themed room, Rikki grabbed a black scrunchy to pull her hair back with. She held the scrunchy in her mouth as she gathered all of her hair. She grabbed the scrunchy with her free hand and tied her hair into a pony tail, almost a bun. Rikki yawned again and headed back downstairs.
On her way to the door, Rikki grabbed her cell phone and slid it quickly into her pocket. She grabbed the door knob and twisted it, opening the door and letting her outside. Something crinkled beneath her feet as she walked onto the porch. Rikki took her foot off of whatever was crinkling, thinking it was a candy wrapper. It wasn't, it was a note. Being her nosy and curious self, Rikki bent down and opened it up. 'Meet me at the mall, Rikki! Be there when you wake up! - Lizzy' it read. Rikki rolled her eyes. "Mum!" she yelled through the door. "Yes, dear?" her mum called back. "I'm going to the mall!"
With that, Rikki threw the paper over the porch rail and left it on the lawn. She knew if Elizabeth was there she'd whip her butt for littering. Lizzy was the girl who wanted to "save the world", which was really something Rikki didn't care about. Rikki grabbed her bike and rode off to the mall. There was Elizabeth. Rikki took a deep breath and hooked up her bite. "How long have you been waiting for me?" she asked when she reached Lizzy.

"Not today, Amy!" Elizabeth hollered at her little sister. Amy gave Lizzy an evil look. "I'll tell Mum you won't take me to the mall with you," Amy said defensively. Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "Go ahead, Amy. You're not coming with me. It's just going to be me and Rikki," Liz said, gritting her teeth a bit. Amy looked like she was ready to cry and fiercely stomped away. "Bye Mum," Lizzy said to her mother, grabbing her purse and slipping out the door. She didn't live too far from the mall, so she was just going to walk. Plus, it was a nice day out. After walking a few blocks she was tired, but luckily almost there.
Lizzy walked past Rikki's house. Her bike was still there, so she figured she was still in slumber land. She pulled a note out from her purse telling Rikki to meet her at the mall. Elizabeth strolled up to the house and sat the letter in front of the door. Then she continued her walk to the mall. She'd be early of course, but she didn't care. Rather be safe than sorry she always said. Cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles were going everywhere as Lizzy crossed the street and made it over to the entrance doors.
About twenty minutes or so later, the figure of Elizabeth's favorite cousin appeared. Lizzy smiled as Rikki walked toward her and asked how long she had been waiting. "Eh, about twenty five minutes. Not too long anyway," she replied. "I figured we could hang out together on this fine day," Lizzy added happily. "Hope you didn't have other plans with Emma or Cleo..."

Rikki yawned again. She was still sleepy, but she couldn't go back home and continue napping now. "Nah, no plans," she said, leaning against a brick wall. "They're both working," she added, letting her gaze fall on her red bike. It was the nicest one out of all the others. She was a little worried that someone would steal it. "So, what store do you want to go in first?" Rikki questioned, not sure what she wanted to do. She wasn't hungry at all, so they couldn't hit the food court first thing. Rikki glanced over at Elizabeth, then back at her bike to make sure nobody attempted stealing it.
Then a boy, younger than Rikki, came up and sat down on Rikki's bike. He spilled water on the seat, then looked around nervously. Rikki glared at him, curling her hand into a fist and targeting at the bike. The bike began to steam, obviously hot. The boy jumped up from the seat and rubbed his bum, apparently affected by the heat. Rikki looked over at Liz again. "I'll be right back...that guy wants to steal my bike apparently and I'll make him think otherwise," she whispered to her, pointing to the boy. It sounded dumb really, but Rikki didn't care. She wasn't afraid to stick up for herself - or her bike for this case.
She walked up to him, stomping her feet and leaving little sparks where she walked. Her mind was telling her to control herself like everyone says, but her heart was saying otherwise. "Hey you, runt!" she called over to the boy. He scrambled off the bike and looked cautiously at Rikki. "Get off my bike!" she yelled in his face. He refused to move and now had a quite calm look on his face. A shot of lightning went off in the distance as Rikki grabbed the boy by his t-shirt collar and pushed him up against one of the brick walls. "Scram, you runt! That's my bike!" Rikki said, making her bike steam more. She dropped him. "Scram, and don't steal any other people's bikes!" she said in the...well, in her sweet sarcastic tone. Returning to Lizzy, she sighed. "Sorry about that...you know how vile I can get,' Rikki said, brushing hair from her face.

Elizabeth tilted her head to one side when Rikki said they were both working. "You should get a job, Rikki. It'd give you something to do rather than just sitting around home all day," she suggested. Rikki's last job didn't go too well from what she had heard, so she figured that was why she didn't apply for another job ever since. "I guess we could go look at clothes...unless you want to look at something else. I need new books to read, so.." she said, trailing off. When Rikki's bike began steaming, Liz caught a glimpse of Rikki's hand doing a weird motion. She became nervous as Rikki went to defend her bicycle - Lizzy knew how vicious Riks could be. As sparks when off under her cousins feet as she walked, Liz became suspicious. She wasn't as stupid as she seemed. Something seemed...fishy.
It seemed really fishy when lightning went off. It wasn't even scheduled to storm that day! When Rikki came back, Lizzy felt...beweldered if nothing else. "R-Rikki, what just happened?" she asked quietly. "Your feet started sparking and lightening went off and your hand was doing a weird movement just the second your bike started steaming!" Elizabeth exclaimed, wanting answers. "Answer me, Rikki! I'm not as dumb as you think," Lizzy insisted, her eyes full of curiosity and even fear.

"Liz, you know how well my last job went. I'm just not ready to work for anybody again for now," Rikki said. "Clothes or books first, I don't care. Books first, since I suppose you'll be faster in there?" When Lizzy began throwing questions at her every five seconds, Rikki was lucky she wasn't having a heart attack. "Well, I just went and stopped some guy from stealing by bike. That's what happened," she said. "And my feet were sparking? That's crazy talk, Lizzy! I must have stepped on a match. Stupid people who litter," Rikki went on with her lies.
"Lightening? Honestly, Lizzy. The forecast is sunny all day. There's no way there could be lightening!" Rikki didn't want her annoying little cousin to know she was a mermaid, especially with Liz having a blabber mouth. She could never keep a secret as dangerous as this. "My hand started cramping. I guess I just gripped the bike handle too hard coming over here. It must have just been a coincidence with the steam," she finished. "Alright, enough silly talk. Let's go look at those books, Liz!" Rikki said, changing the subject.
She walked inside the mall and took a deep breath again. Goodness that was awfully close, she thought to herself. I'd like to smack myself upside the head for not controlling myself... Rikki hadn't been controlling herself well lately...and that wasn't a good thing whatsoever.

Elizabeth nodded. "Books first it is," she said. When her cousin began explaining what happened, Liz only glared at her and crossed her arms. When Rikki changed the subject awfully quickly and hurried inside, Liz became even more suspicious. "Whatever, cuz...if you don't want to tell me what really happened, I guess I should just forget it...," Liz said with a dramatic sigh. "I guess we should just go look at the books now...," she moaned, walking limply toward the bookstore. Maybe nothing really did happen...maybe what she said was right. Maybe I was just seeing things, she thought, straightening up and walking at a more normal pace now.
Entering the bookstore, she quickly headed over to the fiction section. Liz turned to Rikki once more. "Those three matching necklaces that you, Emma, and Cleo all wear don't have anything to do with what happened, do they?" she asked, browsing the shelves. She found a few books that she thought would be interesting and went to pay for them. The clerk put the books in a bag and handed them back to Lizzy. "I'm sorry if I'm getting on your nerves, Rikki. I just want answers," she apologized, not really sorry for anything. Liz strolled out of the bookstore. "So, we're going clothes shopping next?" Elizabeth asked. "Where at?" There were quite a few stores to choose from.
